About Small Aperture

Why?

Originally, Small Aperture happened because Haje discovered that Photocritic had grown in one direction (‘learning more about photography’), and his Twitter had grown in another (‘cool stuff that’s vaguely photography related’). There’d be things that he really wanted to write about, but Photocritic wasn’t the right forum for them. So Small Aperture came about.

But then, well, life sort of got in the way of Haje and Small Aperture. It does that sometimes. This is where I come in. Haje asked me if I wanted to take up the mantle of the Small Aperture editorship. I thought about it for about the blink of an eye and here I am.

Small Aperture? What kind of a silly name is that?

Well, when you take photos with a small aperture, you get a greater depth of field, so you get a feel for what’s going on in the background. That’s what this site is about: a slightly deeper, more overall approach to photography – and all the fun things that comes with it. And besides, we rather like the name.

What is Small Aperture?

We see Small Aperture as an outlet for photography… stuff. News, views, and reviews, if you like. New products, camera reviews, opinions on new techniques are all on the list. As are exhibitions and quirky news stories.

If there’s something that you’d like to know about, or if there’s something that you’d like to cover, let us know. If it is photography-related and something we can get excited about, we’ll consider it. It also needs to be relatively short and mustn’t be dry or boring. No, anything too long or too dull will head towards the great dustbin in the aether.

How to get involved?

Do you want to write for us? Fantastic! Drop me an e-mail, and we’ll talk!

Of course, there are plenty of other places you can find us: @smalleraperture on Twitter, Photocritic.org on the web, @photocritic on Twitter, and Photocritic on Flickr

Stay groovy,
